My Rant on Facebook Turning Everyone Into a Critic

5/18/2013

Usually having a pretty long fuse on things that get me frustrated I wouldn't take the time to write a post like this, but I feel some people need to stumble upon this and get a wake up call. This post earned its right to be written due to the newest Daft Punk CD "Random Access Memories" and the fact that everyone all of a sudden became a critic and figured they would use Facebook as the forum that they would write their article on. I am stoked for them and for the genre that the release has gotten so much hype, it is something they deserve for being the innovators/virtuosos/genius' that they are. And I love the fact that they are pushing boundaries and not conforming to the direction that dance/house/electronic music has been going. The issue I'm having isn't with the album, it is with the listener these days. Like I say my Facebook news feed seems to be cluttered with people who feel the need to have to express an opinion about the album. Seems to be the same posts over and over, someone saying they are unimpressed with the album and then a string of folks offering their take on it good or bad. Here's the thing first off the album isn't even out yet, granted Daft Punk and Itunes leaked it early for us/the public to hear, but that's it. If you express negativity on something you haven't paid a dime for, why are you wasting your breathe? Its not like you didn't get your moneys worth. Secondly, take a minute and let the album marinate in your mind, sure we all have opinions and make snap judgement, but you'll usually find that those opinions change with time or with more exposure. Because you heard the CD at 12:00 doesn't mean that your audience is waiting to hear what you think and have to know by 1:00. We are living in a society that has to hear songs and figure it out right away as opposed to appreciating music. There is a large difference between music and songs and if you say that to people they look at you like your insane. But think about it, songs are filled with lyrics you can understand and a catchy beat that runs for 3 and 1/2 to 4 minute, to where music is an emotional experience that runs for how ever long that artist intends or needs in order to evoke those emotions intended. Today people don't know what to do with music, they crave the song, and it is sad. This new album by the robots is in my opinion an album of music, not songs. Despite my opinion on whether it is good or bad, it is an emotional ride that modern albums lack, so I do tip my cap to that. And with that being said you cant have an opinion on this album sitting in front of your computer with a leaked listen, because it will sound different in your mind if you hear it in your living room vs. running along the beach vs. driving in your car, etc. So I guess what Im getting at if you boil it all down, is the opinions on a true artistic album are not valid yet so save the posts. Give the music a chance to hit you in the right time in the right ways, or wrong ways for that matter, but to force your opinion right out the gates based on a half listen is disrespectful to the artist and to your own mind. Your opinion is a snap judgment, and not credible.
PS. Don't even get me started on the remixes I am finding on the tracks before they are even released. You mean to tell me that your are ripping the song off, cause lets face it, in order to get the stems or sounds to sample you had to download the track and not in the right way, because that is not available to do so yet. Then on top of that you are going to do a half assed remix before the regular/original is even out, just to pump yourself by using Daft Punk's name in the same title as yours. Give the track a bit to become known, get some play, some familiarity before you illegally destroy it. Keep racing using other peoples work, as opposed to being a creator.

This is not me being on Daft Punk's jock even though I do think the album rocks and is fit for a Broadway Musical. I tried to leave my opinion of the album out of it. Wanted to focus on people rushing to critique whether positive or negative. Just relax and appreciate something new. Appreciate that that didn't even exist 2 weeks ago
That's enough for now.......Please tell me if I'm crazy

~~~~~Cheers and love to those who get it~~~~~
Track of mine used in the Davines World Wide Hair Tour 2013 in Paris
This is a clip of a track I have created to be in a segment of the "Davines World Wide Hair Tour 2013" in Paris France.
The concept is something 1920's with a modern twist about it;
As well as trigger a paradigm shift to imagine the possibilities.
Needed to be walkable to models, and fill a hall with a cool vibe.
Give this one a go....
    The Guys @ Pure Life
    Just a couple of dudes providing you with some great music...primarily house music, but not this EDM stuff that is currently popular. More live instrumentation oriented, deep, jazzy, soulful house music with emotion and a groove not just pounding sounds and synths.
